Analyst of the Year IX

After nine years of toiling in the bottom half of the Analyst of the Year, a first time Winner emerges in the most difficult season in five years! That Winner is…

Bookie (8 Trifectas and 40 Correct Picks)! Co-founder and generous annual donor to the Purse, Bookie takes her first Analyst of the Year accolade! She was challenged to the end by Big Tuna, but the Cowboys roped the competition. The Strategist (8 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) outran Big Tuna (8 Trifectas and 36 Correct Pick) in the final stretch. The Strategist Places and Big Tuna Shows.

Roxy Trot closes out the season with a strong finish – six Trifectas in 8 Weeks — and takes fourth place with 7 Trifectas and 41 Correct Picks (best on the season). Jimmy V (7 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) made a valiant effort to defend his Crown but finishes in fifth place on the season. First-time Analyst Wreck It Ralph (7 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) finishes in a respectable sixth place.

In the middle of the field, the following Analysts will retain a Claim to a Home Team during the Super Trifecta Bowl…

Mo Money (6 Trifectas and 35 Correct Picks) takes seventh place. Bug Bug (6 Trifectas and 32 Correct Picks) moves into eighth place. Sponge Mom (5 Trifectas and 37 Correct Picks) soaks up ninth place. KateTDid and Boo Boo (5 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) share tenth place. Wise Orangutan (5 Trifectas and 35 Correct Picks) clings to twelfth place.

At the back of the field, the five Analysts at or below 13th place in the Analyst of the Year will lose Claim to their Home Teams at the start of Super Trifecta Bowl IX…

In 13th place, Woody (5 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) is forced to release the Ravens. In fourteenth place, Craft Brew (4 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) must relinquish the Chargers. In fifteenth place, Little Tuna (4 Trifectas and 32 Correct Picks) releases the Vikings. In sixteenth position, B-Reezy (3 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) dumps the Lions and Atwork (0 Trifectas) packs up the Packers.

The Seeders’ Cup IX

The current Standings are:

The Seeders' Cup IX | Standings | Leg 3
Standings after Leg 3 of The Seeders’ Cup IX

The leaders (Wise O. at 29 points) needs 21 points (of the possible 23 points) to stay ahead of all other Analysts. If Wise O. earns a *lame* Trifecta with 7 Seeder bonus points (one Homefield prediction), the target score for a Win is 39 points. Analysts at 17 points or more can beat that score with a perfect Leg 4 Seeders Cup Trifecta (23 points). Analysts below 17 points need the leaders to bust Trifectas in Week 18 in order to steal the Win in the home stretch.

Analyst of the Year IX

For the Win

Bookie can secure the Championship with a Trifecta OR Big Tuna busts a Trifecta + she earns one Correct Pick.

Big Tuna must earn a Trifecta AND Bookie busts a Trifecta.

The Strategist must earn a Trifecta + Bookie earns 0 (zero) Correct Picks + Big Tuna busts a Trifecta – and that only ties Bookie to send the AoY to a playoff!!!

For a Claim to a Home Team in Super Trifecta Bowl IX (or To Avoid Relegation)

Currently, KateTDid and Boo Boo share 12th place at 4 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks. B-Reezy, Little Tuna, and Atwork cannot surpass either with a Trifecta so theses three Analysts must Win The Seeders’ Cup to retain a avoid Relegation.

If KateTDid and Boo Boo earn Trifectas, the cut for a Claim / Relegation can become has high as 5 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks. No Analyst at or below Mo Money (5 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) is safe. These Analysts face Relegation:

  • Mo Money (7th place)
  • Sponge Mom (8th place)
  • Wise Orangutan (9th place)
  • Bug Bug (10th place)
  • Craft Brew (11th place)
  • KateTDid (12th place, tie)
  • Boo Boo (12th place, tie)
  • Woody (14th place)

If an Analyst in this list busts a Trifecta and EVERY Analyst below that Analyst earns a Trifecta, that Analyst can finish in 13th place (Relegation).

For instance, Mo Money with 0 Correct Picks in Week 18 could finish in a tie with KateTDid and Boo Boo for 11th place at 5 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks — one of the three will become the Analyst with No Claim by coin flip.

In addition, if the Analyst that Wins The Seeders’ Cup finishes at 13th place or lower in the AoY rankings, that Analyst avoids Relegation and the Analyst at 12th place in the AoY rankings will face Relegation.

Ergo, every Analyst from 7th to 17th place still has something to play for in either The Seeders’ Cup Win or the Analyst of the Year Standings!

Standings | Analyst of the Year IX | Week 17

Results of Week 17 may be contingent on the official record for the Bills and Bengals game in Week 17. Currently, the game is postponed and neither team awards a Correct Pick for the win.*

Analyst of the Year IX

A wrinkle in timing has muddled the current Standings of the Ninth Marathon of the Ass! While some results are updated, several Analysts find themselves in a cloud of dust down the home stretch. What we do know is that three Analysts remain in contention for the Win.

Bookie (8 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) clings onto first place by a head. Big Tuna (8 Trifectas and 34 Correct Picks) adds to his season Trifecta total and moves into second place. The Strategist (7 Trifectas and 35 Correct Picks) falls into third place, barely within striking distance of the leader!

Jimmy V, Roxy Trot, and Wreck It Ralph entered Week 17 with mathematical possibilities for the Win. After adding a Trifecta on the season, Wreck It Ralph (7 Trifectas and 34 Correct Picks) moves into fourth place. Unfortunately, he trails the leader by 1 Trifecta and 4 Correct Picks, so his best hope is now Place. Roxy Trot (6 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) and Jimmy V (6 Trifectas and 35 Correct Picks) fall to fifth and sixth place, respectively, with their best hope becoming a Show at 7 Trifectas.

All other Analysts are eliminated from Win, Place, or Show at 7 Trifectas. The five Analysts with the worst records in the Analyst of the Year are at risk of losing Claim to a Home Team during Super Trifecta Bowl IX. All of the below Analysts have mathematical possibilities for relegation to the horseless.

At 5 Trifectas each, the following Analysts lead the list of Analysts who currently retain a Claim to a Home Team during the Super Trifecta Bowl. Mo Money (36 Correct Picks) is in seventh place, trailed by Sponge Mom (35 Correct Picks) in eighth place. Wise Orangutan (33 Correct Picks) remains in ninth position. These three Analysts appear to be safe from relegation. Bug Bug (29 Correct Picks) holds tenth place, but she needs at least 2 Correct Picks or The Seeders’ Cup Crown to remain safe from relegation.

Craft Brew (4 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) continues to move up the board and now is in eleventh place. Boo Boo and KateTDid (both with 4 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) are in a tie for twelfth place — if the season ended this week, a coin flip would determine which was relegated to an Analyst with No Claim. Woody (4 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks) is in fourteenth place. To escape relegation, these four Analysts likely need a Trifecta or The Seeders’ Cup Crown to retain a Claim in the Super Trifecta Bowl — if three out of four earn Trifectas in Week 18, the fourth who remains at 4 Trifectas will be relegated to an Analyst with No Claim (also, see NOTE below).

B-Reezy (3 Trifectas and 29 Correct Picks) and Little Tuna (3 Trifectas and 29 Correct Picks) are tied for fifteenth position, while Atwork (0 Trifectas) in last place. All three need The Seeders’ Cup Crown in order to retain a Claim in the Super Trifecta Bowl.

*NOTE: Woody, Little Tuna, KateTDid, Atwork, and Bug Bug possibly have one more Correct Pick depending on the outcome of the Bills and Bengals game from Week 17. KateTDid has a Trifecta pending (with a Bills win) that would give her a 5th Trifecta, moving her up to 9th place and moving several others down one position (toward relegation). Woody (Bills) or Bug Bug (Bengals) have a Correct Pick pending that may affect relegation (13th place) at the end of the regular season. Little Tuna and Atwork (Bills) have Correct Picks pending that will not affect relegation.

Scenarios

The Seeders’ Cup IX

To be in contention in Leg 4 of The Seeders’ Cup IX, Analysts must be within a point spread determined by the number of *bonus* Seeder points still available — unfortunately, that number is not known before Leg 3 is complete. Bills and Bengals play each other, so either the AFC Homefield Advantage (+7) or AFC North Division Title (+3) will be available in Leg 4.

There will be at least one other Division Title (+3) open: Jaguars or Titans in the AFC South. Minimum difference with the leaders will be 12 points if Bills win and 16 points if Bengals win. If neither Homefield Advantage is secured, then Analysts will need to be only 22 points within the leader after Leg 3.

Analyst of the Year IX

To be in contention in Week 18, an Analyst has to be within 1 Trifecta AND 3 Correct Picks of the leader after Week 17. We are down to six Analysts for the Win. With two weeks remaining, here are the mathematical possibilities for the Win for all six Analysts….

Bookie For the Win…

Bookie (8 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) needs just 1 Trifecta and 4 Correct Picks to control her destiny in the final two weeks. No other Analyst can get to 9 Trifectas and 40 Correct Picks. She can Win outright in Week 17 with a Trifecta AND IF both The Strategist and Big Tuna bust (2 Trifecta lead with 1 Week left).

Anything less, and then…

The Strategist for the Win…

The Strategist (7 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) could tie or beat Bookie with 9 Trifectas and 39 Correct Picks to end the season. She needs two straight Trifectas to control her destiny over all other Analysts with the exception of Bookie. If The Strategist finishes at 8 Trifectas, the other five contenders can surpass her on Correct Picks.

Big Tuna for the Win…

Big Tuna (7 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) can reach 9 Trifectas and 37 Correct Picks with two straight Trifectas. If Bookie adds one Trifecta in Week 17 or 18, Bookie will beat Big Tuna on Correct Picks (her minimum will be 39 Correct Picks). He also needs The Strategist to earn no more than 1 Trifecta in the final two Weeks. If Big Tuna finishes at 8 Trifectas, the other five contenders can surpass him on Correct Picks.

Roxy Trot for the Win…

Roxy Trot (6 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks) has as many Correct Picks as Bookie – the first tiebreaker. If she closes the season with two straight Trifectas, Roxy Trot will have 8 Trifectas and 42 Correct Picks: enough to outscore all three current leaders and the (below) challengers if the season ends at 8 Trifectas. If Roxy Trot adds only 1 Trifecta in the final two Weeks, she is eliminated from the Win.

Jimmy V for the Win…

Jimmy V (6 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) can end the season with 8 Trifectas and 39 Correct Picks. If Bookie earns 0 Trifectas and fewer than 4 Correct Picks, he can overtake her. Jimmy V also needs The Strategist and Big Tuna to finish with less than 9 Trifectas AND Roxy Trot to finish with less than 8 Trifectas. If Jimmy V adds only 1 Trifecta in the final two Weeks, he is eliminated from the Win.

Wreck It Ralph for the Win…

Wreck It Ralph (6 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) can finish with 8 Trifectas and 37 Correct Picks. He then needs 1) Bookie to get no more than 1 Correct Pick in the final two Weeks; The Strategist to get no more than 1 Trifecta and 3 Correct Picks; Big Tuna to get no more than 1 Trifecta and 5 Correct Picks; and Jimmy V to get no more than 1 Trifecta. If Wreck It Ralph adds only 1 Trifecta in the final two Weeks, he is eliminated from the Win.

For Place or Show…

Bookie is in contention for Place or Show no matter the results in Week 17. All other Analysts above remain in contention for Place or Show with a Trifecta in Week 17. Analysts with 5 or more Trifectas entering Week 17 can still Place or Show with a Trifecta AND either The Strategist or Big Tuna busts (remains at 7 Trifectas).

For the Claim…

Woody at 4 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks is the current cut for a Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX (13th place). She can finish the season at 6 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks (the current 4th best record!): so that is the current minimum to be certain of retaining a Claim to a Home Team during the playoffs. But, all Analysts below 6 Trifectas would have to end the season with 2 Trifectas for that to happen!

So, if Woody gets 1 Trifecta in the final two Legs, the target to secure a Claim will more likely be 5 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks for the back of the field. Ten Analysts have 3 to 5 Trifectas after Week 16 and can reach that mark. In any case (for example, all Analysts bust in Week 17), to remain in contention for a Claim in Week 18, Analysts need to be within 1 Trifecta and 3 Correct Picks of the Analyst in 13th place after Week 17!

The only Analyst with no hope of a Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX based on Analyst of the Year IX results is Atwork.

Analyst of the Year IX

We are in the final weeks of the home stretch of the Ninth Marathon of the Ass and the field has been winnowed down to six Analysts for the Win!

Bookie runs to 8 Trifectas and 36 Correct Picks (both highs)! With two weeks left, she has eliminated all Analysts with 5 or fewer Trifectas on the season. Trailing by one length, The Strategist (7 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) holds here slim lead over Big Tuna (7 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) for second place. All three leaders have earned five Trifectas in the past six weeks!

Still in the hunt for the Win at 6 Trifectas each, Roxy Trot (36 Correct Picks) holds onto fourth place. The Defending Analyst of the Year, Jimmy V (33 Correct Picks), moves up to fifth place, followed by Wreck It Ralph (31 Correct Picks) in sixth place. These three Analysts remain in strong contention for the Win or Place, but will need a streak of 2 Trifectas to challenge the current leader!

All other Analysts are eliminated from the Win at 8 Trifectas.

At 5 Trifectas each, the following Analysts can still Place or Show at 7 Trifectas. Mo Money (34 Correct Picks) is in seventh place, trailed by Sponge Mom (33 Correct Picks) in eighth place. Wise Orangutan (31 Correct Picks) moves into the midfield in tenth position. Bug Bug (28 Correct Picks) also escapes from the back of the field with her fourth straight Trifecta and puts herself in position to hold a Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX!

All remaining Analysts are eliminated from Win, Place, and Show at 7 Trifectas.

Reminder: The five Analysts with worst records in the Analyst of the Year are at risk of losing Claim to a Home Team during Super Trifecta Bowl IX.

On the cusp of relegation as one of the Analysts with No Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX, Boo Boo (4 Trifectas, 32 Correct Picks) runs in eleventh position and KateTDid (4 Trifectas, 31 Correct Picks) makes the cut in the twelfth position.

After Wise Orangutan and Bug Bug move up the board, Woody (4 Trifectas, 30 Correct Picks) falls into thirteenth position — the first of five Analysts with No Claim during the Super Trifecta Bowl! Craft Brew (3 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) made a run for fourteenth position, ahead of B-Reezy (3 Trifectas and 28 Correct Picks) and Little Tuna (3 Trifectas and 28 Correct Picks) in a tie for fifteenth. Atwork (0 Trifectas) remains on track for the worst WFTL season on record (The Strategist – 1 Trifecta in a 17 Week Season!!!).

Super Trifecta Bowl Claims

We have not made enough noise about the STB Claims order, but it is the reverse of the Home Team Releases and Claims mid-season:

The top twelve Analysts from the regular season will have a Claim for ownership in this order: 1) Analyst of the Year, 2) Seeder’s Cup Winner, 3) Fibonacci Stakes Winner, 4) Player Haters Winner, 5) PC-Fecta Derby Winner, 6) Place in the Analyst of the Year, 7) Show in the Analyst of the Year, and 8) from 4th-12th position in the Analyst of the Year until twelve teams in total are Claimed by Analysts. When an Analyst has two or more Claims, the highest Claim is granted.

https://www.roi2partners.com/wftl/superfecta-bowl/

A Crown Win secures a Claim. Unfortunately, the leaders of the AoY are also Winners of the first three Crowns. So, the only way for other Analysts to secure a Claim for STB IX is to Win The Seeders’ Cup! And, nobody with 4 or fewer Trifectas is safe at the moment. If two or more Analysts with 2 to 4 Trifectas go on a run, the mid-field could suddenly find themselves eating dust — and that prognostication includes several Analysts with 5 Trifectas if they do not add to their Trifecta totals!

Scenarios

To be in contention in Week 17, an Analyst has to be within 2 Trifectas of the leader after Week 16. Thus….

For the Win…

With a Trifecta in Week 16, Bookie (7 and 33 Correct Picks) can eliminate for the Win every Analyst with 4 Trifectas and any Analyst with 5 Trifectas who does not add a 6th Trifecta. If, however, Bookie busts, then every Analyst with 4 Trifectas can remain in contention for the Win at least one more week — if they earn a Trifecta!

Analysts’ current number of Correct Picks indicates the strength of surpassing Bookie. Even if The Strategist (30 Correct Picks) or Big Tuna (28 Correct Picks) ties Bookie on Trifectas in Week 18, Bookie will have to have had at least one week with zero Correct Picks to make up the difference. The challengers’ best bets are to surpass Bookie on Trifectas.

Unusually, for the Analysts with 5 Trifectas currently, Roxy Trot (33 Correct Picks), Mo Money (32 Correct Picks), or Sponge Mom (31 Correct Picks) can close out the season (Week 18) in a tie for the lead at 7 or 8 Trifectas and Win. The strength of their tiebreakers (Correct Picks) can elevate them over Bookie, The Strategist and Big Tuna in a tie. The leaders need 9 Trifectas to outright eliminate these three challengers.

Jimmy V (30 Correct Picks) and Wreck It Ralph (28 Correct Picks) need help…Both Analysts have to overcome the Correct Pick differential as well as the Trifecta differential, so both Analysts need those mentioned above to founder in the home stretch.

For Place or Show…

Analysts with 3 or more Trifectas entering Week 16 can Place or Show, but the season minimum for the Winner’s Circle is 6 Trifectas (The Strategist and Big Tuna) at the moment.

For the Claim…

Bug Bug at 4 Trifectas and 25 Correct Picks is the current cut for a Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX. She is on a roll with three straight Trifectas and a fourth in Week 16 will likely elevate her over one of the other Analysts with 4 Trifectas.

For the back half of the field at 4 or fewer Trifectas, the target is 5 Trifectas — and some help. Fourteen Analysts have 5 or fewer Trifectas after Week 15. So, even those in contention for the Win in Week 16 could suddenly find themselves among the five worst Analysts of the Year if they earn no Trifectas in the final three weeks!

The only Analyst with no hope of a Claim in Super Trifecta Bowl IX is Atwork. At 0 Trifectas on the season, the best he can do is tie B-Reezy in fourteenth place at 3 Trifectas.

Analyst of the Year IX

We are in the home stretch of the Ninth Marathon of the Ass and we finally have a clear leader who is now on the verge of eliminating half of the field!

Bookie notches her fourth Trifecta in five Weeks to bring her Ass-leading totals to 7 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks (both highs). Trailing by one length, The Strategist (6 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks) adds to her Trifecta count in Week 15 to overtake Big Tuna (6 Trifectas and 28 Correct Picks) for second place. These three Analysts may soon have insurmountable leads on the rest of the field!

The biggest movers of the week are Roxy Trot and Mo Money who tied Jimmy V, Sponge Mom, and Wreck It Ralph at 5 Trifectas each. Roxy Trot (33 Correct Picks) jumps from seventh to fourth place while Mo Money (32 Correct Picks) surges from eighth to fifth place. Sponge Mom (31 Correct Picks) slides down to sixth place, followed by Jimmy V (30 Correct Picks) in seventh and Wreck It Ralph (28 Correct Picks) in eighth place. These five Analysts remain in strong contention for the Win, but will need a streak of 2 or 3 Trifectas to challenge the current leader!

On the cusp of elimination for the Win, Woody, KateTDid, Wise Orangutan, Boo Boo and Bug Bug lead the bottom half of the field with 4 Trifectas each. Boo Boo (30 Correct Picks) holds ninth position over KateTDid (29 Correct Picks) in tenth position. Woody and Wise Orangutan (28 Correct Picks each) continue to run feverishly in eleventh place to stay ahead of the five Analysts with No Claim during the Super Trifecta Bowl!

Reminder: The five Analysts with worst records in the Analyst of the Year are at risk of losing Claim to a Home Team during Super Trifecta Bowl IX.

Despite a streak of three Trifecta in a row (!), Bug Bug (4 Trifectas and 25 Correct Picks) remains among the bottom five Analysts. She is followed by B-Reezy (3 Trifectas and 28 Correct Picks) in fourteenth place.

Craft Brew (2 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks) in the fifteenth spot and Little Tuna (2 Trifectas and 25 Correct Picks) in the sixteenth spot have been eliminated from Win, Place and Show. Atwork (0 Trifectas) is in dire straits of setting the record for worst season on record (The Strategist – 1 Trifecta in a 17 Week Season!!!).

Around the near turn, the Analysts have reached a blistering pace! Two Analysts have a streaks of 4 straight Trifectas and six Analysts have 3 Trifectas in the past four weeks! The Trifecta accuracy has increased to 25.6% and Pick Accuracy to 62.9% during the Fibonacci Stakes!!!

Still holding slim leads, Bookie and Big Tuna add their 6th Trifectas in Week 14. Bookie has first place by virtue of 30 Correct Picks to Big Tuna’s 26 Correct Picks.

Third place remains hotly contested by four Analysts with 5 Trifectas each. By Correct Picks, Sponge Mom moves into third place with 29 Correct Picks. Jimmy V owns fourth place with 28 Correct Picks while The Strategist and Wreck It Ralph share fifth position with 27 Correct Picks.

Mo Money falters in Week 14 and falls into a tie at 4 Trifectas each with Roxy Trot and Boo Boo. Roxy Trot has the inside rail for seventh place with 30 Correct Picks, followed by Mo Money with 29 Correct Picks in eighth and Boo Boo with 28 Correct Picks in ninth place.

The back half of the field begins with a handful of Analysts with 3 Trifectas each: Woody, KateTDid, Wise Orangutan, and Bug Bug. KateTDid has the advantage for tenth position with 26 Correct Picks, followed by Woody and Wise Orangutan tied for eleventh with 25 Correct Picks.

Reminder: The last five Analysts in the Analyst of the Year IX competition will lose Claim to a Home Team during Super Trifecta Bowl IX!

Bug Bug in thirteenth with 3 Trifectas and 22 Correct Picks leads the bottom five Analysts. She is followed by B-Reezy and Craft Brew with 2 Trifectas each. Little Tuna (1 Trifecta), and Atwork (0 Trifectas) are in dire straits to end the season!

Third place is now hotly contested by five Analysts with 4 Trifectas each. By Correct Picks, Mo Money holds third place with 27 Correct Picks, while Sponge Mom holds onto fourth place with 26 Correct Picks. Jimmy V owns fifth place with 25 Correct Picks. The Strategist and Wreck It Ralph (with his third Trifecta in three weeks!) share sixth position with 24 Correct Picks.
