Analyst of the Year VIII

In the first 18 week season in WFTL history, Jimmy V ties the record of 10 Trifectas set by Atwork and Wise Orangutan! He has two weeks to set a new record for Trifectas. He needs four more Correct Picks to hold both records.

Jimmy V solidifies his first place run with a 10th Trifecta and his 38th Correct Pick. He builds a 2 Trifecta lead with only two weeks to go! Sponge Mom (8 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks) makes a late move to take second place from Mo Money (8 Trifectas and 34 Correct Picks) in third place. All three remain in contention (mathematically) for the Win.

At 6 Trifectas each, though eliminated from the Win in Week 15, Woody (35 Correct Picks), Roxy Roxy Trot (34 Correct Picks), B-Reezy (33 Correct Picks) and Little Tuna (32 Correct Picks) may still Place if they can somehow overtake Sponge Mom and Mo Money.

The Strategist (5 Trifectas and 34 Correct Picks) was eliminated from Place and Show in Week 16. She edges out Craft Brew (33 Correct Picks and Big Tuna (33 Trifectas each) for eighth.

KateTDid (3 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) moves up to tenth place, eager to keep her Chiefs in the playoffs. Atwork and Bookie (3 Trifectas and 19 Correct Picks to each) are tied in the race to the bottom of the list and Analysts with No Claim in the playoffs. Wise O. (2 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) moves into sole possession of worst place (first to worst!) and one of the two Analyst with No Claim in the playoffs!

The brutal end to the Run of the Black-Eyed Analysts saw all Analysts fail to earn a *base* Trifecta, not one Analyst earn a Correct Home Team Pick, AND not one Analyst with the foresight to Pick Three of four Player Hater opportunities: Jaguars, Broncos,Chargers, or Steelers!

The Crown Race ended in a five-way tie at 24 Trifecta Points for Jimmy V, Little Tuna, Roxy Trot, KateTDid, and Mo Money. And the Winner is: Mo Money! She had the strongest tiebreaker recorded headed into the final Leg and no Analyst improved position. She excels on tiebreakers over the four other Analysts for her first Win!
Of the remaining four Analysts at 24 Trifecta Points, KateTDid made a last ditch effort to Win but came up just short. She loses to the three remaining Analysts on tiebreakers: Little Tuna (first), Roxy Trot (first) and Jimmy V (second). As a result KateTDid finishes in fifth place.

The three remaining Analysts at 24 Trifecta Points had a photo-finish: Jimmy V bests Little Tuna on second tiebreaker (Correct Home Team Picks); Little Tuna bests Roxy Trot on first tiebreaker (head-to-head Home Team games); and, Roxy Trot bests Jimmy V on third tiebreaker (forced turnovers per game)! As no clear winner emerges on closer analysis of the photo-finish, all three Analysts share Place (and second place Purse!).

In another tie among four Analysts at 21 Trifecta Points, Wise Orangutan, Craft Brew, B-Reezy, and Sponge Mom combat for sixth place! Sponge Mom takes sixth place with 4 Correct Home Team Picks, Wise O. seventh (2 Correct Home Team Picks), Craft Brew eighth (1 Correct Home Team Pick), and B-Reezy ninth place (0 Correct Home Team Picks).

Four more Analysts finish in a tie at 18 Trifecta Points! BigTuna takes tenth place, Woody takes eleventh place, The Strategist takes twelfth place, and Atwork finishes in thirteenth place on tiebreakers. Bookie‘s Wild Ride of five straight Pick Threes for Player Hater teams ditches her in last place with 12 Trifecta Points.

Picks

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may NOT pick their Claimed team to lose. Analysts do not have to pick his or her Home Team to win, but *bonus* trifecta points are won only if Analysts include the Home Team in a *base* or *lame* Trifecta. Analysts must Pick Three games from the official Slate of Games. See The Seeders’ Cup Rules for more.

Email picks in private to The Bookie before each Leg (week) of the Race. Thursday games are due by 4pm EST on Thursdays. All Sunday and Monday Picks are due on Saturdays at 5pm EST. Both deadlines may be extended at the discretion of The Bookie. No Picks for games after kickoffs are accepted.

No revisions (Re-Picks) are possible after the Picks have been released to all Analysts by The Bookie.

Analyst of the Year VIII

In the home stretch, Jimmy V wins when everybody loses!

Jimmy V holds first with 9 Trifectas and his 35 Correct Picks. Only Mo Money (8 Trifectas and 32 Correct Picks) in second place and Sponge Mom (7 Trifectas and 35 Correct Picks) in third place challenge.

Five Analysts at 5 Trifectas have been eliminated from contention in Week 15. Woody (32 Correct Picks), The Strategist (32 Correct Picks), Roxy Roxy Trot (31 Correct Picks), B-Reezy (30 Correct Picks) and Little Tuna (2p Correct Picks) may still Place, but Mo Money and Sponge Mom must not exceed 8 Trifectas.

The remaining Analysts have been eliminated from Win and Place. Craft Brew (and Big Tuna (4 Trifectas each) and Atwork (3 Trifectas) can still become the Analysts with No Claim in the playoffs. KateTDid (2 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks) remains in twelfth place, leaving Wise O. (2 Trifectas and 29 Correct Picks) and Bookie (2 Trifectas and 26 Correct Picks) as the most likely contenders for the Analysts with No Claim in the playoffs!

Analyst of the Year VIII

In the home stretch, Jimmy V and the rest of the leaders continue to run roughshod over the field! A handful of Analysts have now been eliminated from the Win!

Jimmy V pulls out a 9th Trifecta and his 34the Correct Pick to hold his one length lead. Mo Money (8 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) in second place has not yet given up, while staving off Sponge Mom (7 Trifectas and 33 Correct Picks) in third place.

Five Analysts at 5 Trifectas each confront elimination this week. Woody (31 Correct Picks) leap frogs the field for fourth place. The Strategist (30 Correct Picks) and Roxy Roxy Trot (30 Correct Picks) share fifth position. B-Reezy (29 Correct Picks) falters into seventh place. Little Tuna (28 Correct Picks) holds onto her slim hopes for a championship run in eighth position.

The following Analysts with 4 Trifectas each have been eliminated from the Win due to being 5 Trifectas behind the leader with only four weeks to go! They have a slim hope to catch Mo Money for Place at the moment: Craft Brew (29 Correct Picks) and Big Tuna (29 Correct Picks).

The following Analyst with 3 Trifectas each have been eliminated from Place due to being 5 Trifectas behind the Place leader with only four weeks to go! They have a slim hope to catch Sponge Mom for Show at the moment: Atwork (25 Corrrect Picks)

At 2 Trifecta each, the following Analysts lead to be The Analyst with No Claims: KateTDid (29 Correct Picks) is in twelfth place, while Wise O. (27 Correct Picks) and Bookie (25 Correct Picks) are the most likely contenders for losing Claim in the playoffs!

Standings | Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Final Results

Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Final Results

Headed into the home stretch, the heavy track had hobbled half of the field through three Legs. Only two Analysts scored points in every Leg of the Fibonacci Stakes, and the final came down to an outcome in a single MNF game! And the Winner is…

Big Tuna (43 points)! Big Tuna becomes only the second Analyst to complete the Career Grand Slam — he has now won all 6 Races in the WFTL. He had to stave off Woody, who finishes in Place with 37 points.

Atwork (36 points) came on strong at the end to tie Mo Money (36 points), but Mo Money has the edge for Show on Correct Home Team Picks (4 vs. 0).

KateTDid (34 points) surged into fifth place in the final Legs, ahead of Jimmy V (29 points) in sixth position. Roxy Trot (28 points) closes in seventh place with 28 points.

Craft Brew, Little Tuna, and Bookie (25 points each), with Little Tuna taking 8th Place with 2 Correct Home Team Picks, Craft Brew 9th Place with 1 Correct Home Team Pick, and Bookie with 0 Correct Home Team Picks.

Wise Orangutan bests Sponge Mom (19 points each) for 11th position with 2 Correct Home Team Picks, while The Strategist (16 points) and B-Reezy (15 points) trot to the finish line!

Standings after Leg 4 of Fibonacci Stakes VIII

Headed into the home stretch (Leg 5), Big Tuna holds a 6 point lead over his nearest competitor — more than 5-point Fibonacci Bonus Pick in Leg 5. This means his challengers will have to earn at least one more Fibonacci Bonus and/or better Trifecta (base or lame) than he does.

Leg 4 Picks

Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Picks | Leg 4
Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Picks | Leg 4

Scenarios

Big Tuna (1st Place; 27 points): The Eagles are on a Bye in Leg 5, so Big Tuna must change at least one Pick. His maximum score is *base* Trifecta (6) plus two Fibonacci Bonus Picks (10) for 16 points. No other Analyst can reach 43 points. If Big Tuna gets a lame Trifecta with two Fibonacci Bonus Pick, he still adds 13 points total. If Big Tuna gets a lame Trifecta with one Fibonacci Bonus Pick, he gains 8 points to reach 35 points total.

While Big Tuna can wipe out (0 points) down the home stretch, the Scenarios consider his “average” outcome (8 points) because many Analyst also have his other Fibonacci Bonus Picks (Rams and Buccaneers).

Woody (2nd Place; 21 points): Woody had the Bills and Buccaneers in Leg 4 — two teams that play each other in Leg 5. She has the luxury of Picking the winner of the Bills/Bucs game for Fibonacci Bonus Points, but Woody also can add only16 points total with a *base* Trifecta and two Fibonacci Bonus Picks. That is enough to Win if Big Tuna scores 8 points or less and those who trail her do not surpass her total.

Mo Money (3rd place; 20 points): Mo Money can perform the full Fibonacci for 21 points. That is enough to beat Big Tuna with a *lame* Trifecta (max = 40 points) and Woody with a 16-point Trifecta (max = 37 points). If she switches Picks (to maintain AoY strategy), then her gambit will require Big Tuna and Woody to falter and those trailing her not to perform a full Fibonacci.

KateTDid (4th Place; 18 points): KateTDid requires a full Fibonacci (21 points) to exceed 37 points (more than Big Tuna’s projected 8-point outcome) and Woody’s maximum outcome. Mo Money can outrace her to the finish line if Rams Win.

Jimmy V (5th Place; 18 points): Jimmy V is Boxed Out by Mo Money, which mean he can Place at best if he holds the same three teams. If he changes one Pick strategically, he can reach 34 points. Whether that is enough to Win depends on which three teams he holds and how other Analysts’ Picks prove true!

Roxy Trot (6th Place; 17 points) and Bookie (7th Place; 17 points): Both Analysts have the Bills and Buccaneers (playing each other in Leg 5). Both must change at least one Pick and at most can earn 16 points for 33 Trifecta Points total. To Win, they will have to choose wisely between Bills and Buccaneers, and then find a third Pick to complete a 16-point Trifecta. Both need to examine the Analysts ahead of them to find the proper third Pick to come from behind.

All Other Analysts: Are in the back half of the field and trailing Big Tuna by at least 12 points. The full Fibonacci (if possible) is their best hope, but most are partially Boxed Out by other Analysts ahead of them. Atwork is in the best position since he has three unique Picks including Cowboys and Seahawks (nobody else has these two teams). The other Analysts will have to spend the night at the computer running predictive models to find their best hope for the Win!

Analyst of the Year VIII

In the final turn, the leaders of the Eighth Running of the Analyst of the Year regain their gait and begin the weeks-long process of eliminating competition!

Jimmy V returns to form at the most opportune moment. He squeezes hard to keep his lead with an 8th Trifecta and 31st Correct Pick. Mo Money (7 Trifectas and 28 Correct Picks) in second place holds off Sponge Mom (6 Trifectas and 30 Correct Picks) in third place, as both add Trifectas in Week 13.

B-Reezy (5 Trifectas and 27 Correct Picks) propels himself into sole possession of fourth place. At 4 Trifectas each, Woody (28 Correct Picks) takes over fifth fourth place, one head lead over The Strategist (27 Correct Picks) and Roxy Trot (27 Correct Picks) in sixth position, and Little Tuna (25 Correct Picks) swimming upstream to the top half of the field.

At the back of the field, Craft Brew (3 Trifectas and 26 Correct Picks) and Big Tuna (3 Trifectas and 26 Correct Picks) stoke their hopes for a championship run and share eighth position.

Headed to the glue factory, defending AoY champion Wise Orangutan (2 Trifectas and 25 Correct Picks) falls to tenth place and becomes officially eliminated from regaining his trophy! Joining Wise O., Bookie (2 Trifectas and 23 Correct Picks) and Atwork (2 Trifectas and 22 Correct Picks) also must recover from an extraordinarily early elimination from the AoY chase.

KateTDid (1 Trifecta), who started the season gloriously with a Trifecta in the first week, ponders wistfully about the season that could have been — if an Analyst had not poached her Claim to the Buccaneers two years in a row!
