And they are off for the eighth running of the PC-Fecta Derby!

Sponge Mom (17 points) sprints out of the gates and takes an early lead around the clubhouse turn! With a *base* Trifecta, *extra* point, and the best Home Team Offense and Defense (34-14), she hits the backstretch with a 10-point lead. Sponge Mom also gets a Head-to-Head Tiebreaker over B-Reezy.

KateTDid (7 points) gives chase in second place with a *base* Trifecta and *extra* point (and Head-to-Head Tiebreaker over Woody). She is followed by Bookie (4 points) in third place with a *lame* Trifecta and *extra* point. 

Six Analysts are tied with 3 points each. Craft Brew has an edge with a Head-to-Head tiebreaker over Roxy Trot and one of the few Home Teams with a win in Leg 1 (+7 Point Differential per Game)! The Strategist (-4), Woody (-4), Wise Orangutan (-6), Roxy Trot (-7), and Big Tuna (-35) are separated by third tiebreaker…but all had losing Home Teams (and a negative Point Differential per Game!) 

Five Analysts stumble out of the gate with 0 points. Atwork (+26), Jimmy V (+25),and Mo Money (+2) have positive Point Differentials per Game for the edge over B-Reezy (-20) and Little Tuna (-25). Jimmy V also has a Head-to-Head tiebreaker over Little Tuna and Atwork has one Correct Home Team Pick.

The Slate of Games for PC-Fecta Derby VIII includes twelve head-to-head competitions during the month (the first tiebreaker in the race). Leg 1 may prove to be key as the sprint begins with only 10 games and 4 head-to-head competitions!

Home Teams owned by an Analyst are in bold. The team at the left is the visiting team; the team at the right is the host (playing at home). There are many featured games: two Thursday nights (TNF), all four Sunday nights (SNF), and three Monday nights (MNF).

None of the Home Teams are on a bye-week during PC-Fecta Derby VIII!

Picks

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may NOT pick their Claimed team to lose. Analysts do not have to pick his or her Home Team to win, but *bonus* trifecta points are won only if Analysts include the Home Team in a *base* or *lame* Trifecta. Analysts must Pick Three games from the official Slate of Games. See the Derby Rules for more.

Email picks in private to The Bookie before each Leg (week) of the Race. Thursday games are due by 4pm EST on Thursdays (flexible per The Bookie’s time in special circumstances). All Sunday and Monday Picks are due on Saturdays at 5pm EST. No Picks for games after kickoffs are accepted.

No revisions (Re-Picks) are possible after the Picks have been released to all Analysts by The Bookie.

Season VIII Welcome

A reminder that we adopted a Rule for Home Team trades in Season VI: here.

Season VIII begins with continuing uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again, the Analysts have chosen not to adopt special rules for canceled games or convalescing Home Teams. There are however established procedures for Picks. We will remind the Analysts of the Picks procedures in a later post.

A second reminder that the order of the Standing during Season VIII reflects the final rankings for Analyst of the Year VII for the thirteen returning Analysts. Mo Money is racing in her inaugural season!

World Football Trifecta Championship 2021-22

WFTL Season VIII Preparations

The General Rules for the World Football Trifecta League have been updated such that Analysts must relinquish Claims to Home Teams to start the season and the Analysts Claim new Home Teams in reverse of the Standings for the prior season’s Analyst of the Year.

No Analysts went to pasture and one new Analyst joined the WFTL for 2021-22. The Claims Order for the 14 Analysts was then:

  4. The Bookie
  5. Roxy Trot
  6. Little Tuna
  7. B-Reezy
  8. Big Tuna
  9. Woody
  10. Atwork

Key Dates for Season VIII:

August 21 – Twelve of fourteen Analysts met at the First Annual WFTL Claims Party to select Home Teams! (Claim Results forthcoming.)
September 9 – First game of Season VIII.
September 23 – Purse due to the league bookie.

Improved Season VIII Rules

1) To start the new Season, Analysts must relinquish Claims to Home Teams from the prior season. New Claims will be made in reverse order of the Standings for the prior season’s Analyst of the Year.

2) With the expanded regular season to 17 games, Analysts voted to add a fifth leg to the Player Haters Preakness.

3) For the Super Trifecta Bowl, in the final leg, Analysts will earn +3/+3 bonuses for the best offense/defense score predictions with a Correct Pick in the TGWSNBN.

4) The Analysts determined that NO new rules for the COVID-19 crisis will be adopted. If games are canceled after Picks are in or if a Home Team is sent to pasture due to an outbreak, the Analysts will have no recourse other than what is provided in the Standard Rules.
