PC-Fecta Derby

The Fastest Four Weeks in Sports

Named in honor of the first race of the Triple Crown and bearing the nom de guerre of the first Analyst to win a World Football Trifecta League race, the incomparable Pork Chop. The PC-Fecta Derby tests Analysts’ pre-season prognostications for the best offenses and defenses in the league. Analysts may earn *bonus* Trifecta Points if their Home Team, as a Correct Pick, outscores all other Home Teams or if their Home Team holds an opponent to the lowest score among Home Teams during a week. Trifecta Points are earned in four legs – weeks 1 to 4 of a professional football league – and the winner is declared based on total Trifecta Points accumulated in the Derby.

Race Rules

Each week, Analysts predict three teams to win from the Slate of Games that include at least one Home Team. An Analyst may pick any team EXCEPT the opponent of the game that includes their own Home Team. Correctly picking three winners earns an Analyst *base* Trifecta Points for a week. Correctly picking two winners earns an Analyst *lame* Trifecta Points for a week.

In addition, among the Analysts who earn *base* or *lame* Trifecta Points in a week, the Analysts who correctly pick their Home Teams to win will compete for *bonus* Trifecta Points based on the offensive output and defensive stinginess of their Home Teams. (2019-20 Rules Revision)

Trifecta Point System

Per the General Rules 2.0, in the PC-Fecta Derby, the *base* Trifecta for correctly picking three teams to win their respective games is worth six (6) points and the *lame* Trifecta for correctly picking two teams to win is worth three (3) points.

Only Home Teams Correctly Picked by Analysts who earn the *base* Trifecta Points or *lame* Trifecta Points are in contention for the award of *bonus* Trifecta Points.

An Analyst who Correctly Picks at least two teams including his or her own Home Team for the *base* or *lame* Trifecta will earn  *bonus* Trifecta Points according to the following:

  1. An *extra* point for Correctly Picking a Home Team Win,
  2. The Home Team that scores the most points of any Home Team among those included in *base* or *lame* Trifectas earns the Analyst 7 *offense* bonus points for the Leg (week), and
  3. The Home Team that holds its opponent to the lowest score of any other Home Team among those included in *base* or *lame* Trifectas earns the Analyst 3 *defense* bonus point in the Leg.

All Analysts earn *extra* points if the Home Team is included in a *base* or *lame* Trifecta. Typically, only one Analyst will earn the *offense* points and only one Analyst will earn the *defense* points. However, if two or more Home Teams tie for best offense or best defense, each Analyst gets the applicable *offense* or *defense* points.

A single Analyst may win both the *offense* and *defense* bonus points, for a maximum of 17 Trifecta points in one week (6 *base* + 1 *extra* + 7 *offense* + 3 *defense* points).  Thus, the maximum points possible in the PC-Fecta Derby is 68 Trifecta Points.

NOTE: If an Analyst’s Home Team is on a bye week, the Analyst is NOT eligible to win ANY *bonus* Trifecta Points. Review the full schedule for the first four weeks of the season to see which teams have a week 4 bye.

Third Tiebreaker

If the PC-Fecta Derby ends in a Trifecta Point tie between two or more Analysts AND the first two tiebreaker criteria do not determine a winner, then the third tiebreaker is:

3. The Home Team with the largest point differential per game played during the Derby wins the Race. The point differential is Home Team’s Points For minus Points Against during the Race.

If there is no clear winner after the third tiebreaker, the PC-Fecta Derby Purse is split evenly.

PC-Fecta Derby Scoring Example

In a single week, three Analysts – The Bookie, Big Tuna, and Kal Krome – correctly predict three winners from a slate of 6 games involving 7 Analyst’s Home Teams. The Bookie did NOT select her Home Team to win (bye week), so she earns 6 trifecta point – the *base* points. Big Tuna selected his Home Team to win and his team scored the most points of the 7 Home Teams, so he earns 14 Trifecta points – 6 *base* points, an *extra* point, and 7 *offense* bonus points for Home Team offensive production. Kal Krome also predicted his Home Team to win and his Home Team earns the *defense* bonus points, bringing his total to 10 Trifecta points for the week – 6 *base* points, an *extra* point, and 3 *defense* points for Home Team defensive stinginess.
