In the final leg, the World Football Analysts Championship came down to first-year winner, Little Tuna, and last year’s runner-up, Atwork, coming off a crushing collapse in the final quarter of The Game Which Shall Not Be Named.

Was Atwork headed to another improbable defeat or would he dig deep to take the most illustrious trophy in sports analysis?

Super Trifecta Bowl II

Atwork! Atwork ices his victory with a clutch Trifecta in the Championship Round. His dark horse Eagles also clinched all three Reverse PC-Fectas in the Championship Round, pushing Atwork to 14 points and a three-point victory over Little Tuna.

Unfortunately for Little Tuna, the surefire wins with the Patriots were not enough.  She finishes in second with 11 points.

In third, Wise Orangutan flagged after his Falcons were put down by Atwork’s Eagles.

In  a three-way tie with 5 points, fourth place goes to B-Reezy who earned the most Base Trifecta Points (2) in the Super Trifecta Bowl. Kal Krome edges Big Tuna for fifth place with 2 Playoff Victory Points from his Vikings.

The rest of the field tied for last with 0 points.

A round of applause to all the players for another fine year of competition to prove which Analyst has the best horse sense in World Professional Football Analysis!

Analyst of the Year IV

The Strategist sets the record with 9 Trifectas in a single season! She earns first place with a two length lead.

Craft Brew and Big Tuna end in a photo-finish for 2nd place. Both Analysts earn 7 Trifectas and 38 Correct Picks over the course of the season.

Last year’s AoY, B-Reezy, falls to fourth place with 7 Trifectas and 37 Correct Picks, followed by Wise Orangutan in fifth place with 7 Trifectas and 32 Correct Picks.

Surprisingly, none of the top five Analysts earned a Cup during the regular season.

After making the switch to the Patriots, Little Tuna charged from the back of the pack to take sixth place with 6 Trifectas and 36  Correct Picks, just ahead of The Bookie in seventh with 6 Trifectas and 34 Correct Picks.

Atwork (5 Trifectas) takes eighth place with a one length lead over Kal Krome (4 Trifectas).

Little Tuna holds onto her slim edge over The Strategist to take The Seeders Cup IV!

Both earning 16 Trifecta points, Little Tuna heads across the finish line with 3 Correct Home Team Picks just ahead of the Strategist with 2 Correct Home Team Picks.

In third place, Wise O. beats The Bookie by a nose: both have 11 Trifecta points and 2 Correct Home Team Picks, but in the third tiebreaker, Wise O. holds the advantage with 15 Seeder points to 11 Seeder points.

In fifth comes Craft Brew with 10 Trifecta points, shaking his head at the collapse of the Saints in the final minute.

In sixth, Atwork finishes with 9 Trifecta points, followed by Big Tuna (7th, 12 Seeeder points) and B-Reezy (8th, 10 Seeder points). Kal Krome takes ninth after a disappointing month by the Seahawks.

Fibonacci Stakes IV

With a blistering 14 points in the final two legs of the Fibonacci Stakes, Little Tuna takes home her first purse of the season. With winning trifectas in three of five legs, she sets the record for the most points scored in a Fibonacci in league history!

From the middle of the pack, Big Tuna and Kal Krome surge for place and show. Big Tuna’s halos netted him 4 Correct Home Team Picks to edge Kal Krome by a beak (3 Correct Home Team Picks).

Little Tuna would have remained out of reach no matter what he chose to do, but Craft Brew finishes in fourth with 8 Trifecta points after making what most other Analysts agree was, chiefly, a unwise swap in the home stretch.

Speaking of, chiefly, bad decisions, The Strategist finishes in fifth (4 Trifecta points), one length ahead of The Bookie (3 Trifecta points, 6th) and Wise Orangutan (3 Trifecta points, 7th).

B-Reezy, who chiefly is responsible for the poor showing of the former front runners in the AoY competition, edges out Atwork in ninth, who chiefly gets a consolation prize for fooling B-Reezy into making a bad choice, chiefly, in Home Team.

The name of the game is to spot the contenders over the pretenders, so kudos to the Analysts with 3+ Correct Home Team Picks!

The Run of the Black-Eyed Analysts ends in another photo finish!

With Craft Brew trailing by only one length but holding the Head-to-Head tiebreaker, The Bookie had to gut out a strong performance in the homestretch. Her bungly Bengals kept it together just enough to beat the feisty Colts by 1 point giving her the edge at the pole.

The Bookie breaks maiden (she sent The Clearinghouse an email with instructions to use the correct horse racing terminology) in the regular season with 5 Trifecta Points!

In a WFTL first, Craft Brew and The Strategist finish in tie for second place! Both Analysts have 4 Trifecta Points, 1 Correct Home Team Selection, and a turnover differential per game of -0.5.

Big Tuna takes fourth with 3 Trifecta Points, ahead of Kal Krome (5th) and B-Reezy (6th) with 2 Trifecta Points each (Kal had more Correct Home Team Selections).

In seventh is Wise Orangutan with 1 Trifecta Point, followed by also-rans Little Tuna and Atwork (0 Trifecta Points).

Final Standings

At the finish, Atwork (5 trifecta points) sprints from the back of the field to overtake Wise Orangutan (4 trifecta point) and The Strategist (3 trifecta points) to win the 2017-18 PC-Fecta Derby!

Atwork earns his first Quaternary Crown and makes known his quest for vengeance this year after beating three other Analysts’ Home Teams during the month of September!

The Strategist (3 trifecta points) shows be virtue of picking her Home Team correctly three times. Big Tuna (3 trifecta points) falls into fourth at the finish line after his Home Team Raiders are forced to put their quarterback out to pasture for the second year in a row.

Little Tuna (2 points total) edges past B-Reezy (2 points total) with two Correct Home Team Selections for fifth place.

In seventh, Craft Brew (1 point total) sneaks by Kal Krome (0 points) and The Bookie (0 points). Despite a spirited-game in the final week by The Bookie’s Home Team, Kal Krome finishes 8th with 2 Correct Home Team Selections.

Kal Krome (3 Trifectas and 32 Correct Picks) closes strong to take fourth place over The Bookie (3 Trifectas and 31 Correct Picks) and Atwork (3 Trifectas and 29 Correct Picks).

B-Reezy romps to an easy victory after earning four trifectas in five weeks, including the last three legs of the Fibonacci Stakes. His 14 points bests his next closest contender by 7 points. The second-year Analyst breaks maiden* in the WFTL!

Little Tuna (7 points) dusts off her Analyst of the Year trophy and regains her form from last season to spring into second place down the homestretch. The Bookie (5 points) edges out Atwork (5 points) with her solid tiebreaker resume.

In fifth, Big Tuna (4 points) bests Wise Orangutan by a length (3 points).

The Run of the Black-Eyed Analysts lives up to its billing!

With just over 14 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, The Big Tuna had all of the odds in his favor. Little Tuna, his last challenger, was down by 10 points, 1st and ten on the 25 yard-line, and according to one win probability calculator had only a 6.4% chance of winning the Preakness.  But, the World Football Trifecta deities intervened, and the winner is….

Little Tuna! She takes the Player Haters Preakness 2016-17 for her first win of the third season. After taking an early lead in the first leg, she suckerpunched the competition into submission as her Cowboys went 3-0 in the month. Congratulations LT!
