Analyst of the Year III

Seven of eight Analysts earn one Correct Pick in the sixth leg of the annual race, while the eighth picks no correct winners.

B-Reezy holds the outside rail, followed by Kal Krome, Atwork, and Wise Orangutan one length behind.

Big Tuna, The Strategist, and Little Tuna trail the leader by two lengths.

The Bookie slips further behind after picking no correct winners. Is it the Secretariat strategy or signs of an Analyst teetering on the precipice of madness?

Race Day Notes:

Each week the Bookie will interview one analysts.
This week the Bookie interviewed Wise Orangutan.

Bookie: Big O, there was rumors three years ago that you may have had a hand in forming the rules for this game but your picks have not even matched up to some of our newer Analyst of this game. Fact check: according to the Clearinghouse, your picks are rarely correct. Would you like to make a comment about this?

Wise Orangutan: The rumors are greatly exaggerated. The Clearinghouse and I have no relationship whatsoever. As you may recall, The Clearinghouse sent Guido to break my fingers for no substantial reason other than a personal defense of the integrity of the races after Little Tuna cheat-rioted her way into our coveted trophies!

Now, this year, I no longer will be driven into irrational choices based on my deep-seated passion to stop the Cheat-riots from winning — no, stealing — yet another Super Bowl. I plan to reclaim the Player Haters Preakness (my first win) and position myself for Analyst of the Year before the second half of the racing season.

Oh, and, at least I am not as bad as The Bookie! Sheesh, you control the damn picks!

Bookie: Side note, still irrational and quite smelly. I noticed he was eating some sort of chocolate substance and drinking canned beer! Who drinks canned beer?

Wise Orangutan: PBR in a can!

B-Reezy moves to the outside rail, without interest in the Preakness standings, to overtake Kal Krome and distance himself from Atwork. He reaches 3 Trifectas and 12 Correct Picks in only five weeks.

Kal Krome falls into second place (2 Trifectas, 12 Correct Picks), followed closely by Wise Orangutan (2 Trifectas, 11 Correct Picks) in third. Atwork steps in a bear trap and now follows in fourth place (2 Trifectas, 10 Correct Picks).

Big Tuna and The Strategist (1 Trifecta, 10 Correct Pick) contest fifth place as Little Tuna cowboys up for her first surge of the year (1 Trifecta,  8 Correct Picks).

The Bookie (0 trifectas) eagerly awaits word from Guido on the effectiveness of PEDs for the improvement of football prognostication capacity!

B-Reezy: My strategy is different from last year where I made a lot of my picks with my home team. I’m still a number 1 Bears fan but “Straight out, my strategy is, when I feel pretty sure I go for the trifecta. I’m going for the big one, Analysts of the Year Award. I HAVE MY EYE ON THE PRIZE!!! ”

Little Tuna lasso’ed a number of Analysts in Leg 1 when the Bungles fell to the Cowboys. Atwork falters in the contests of four-legged beasts after the Buffalos defeat the Rams and Colts defeat the Bears.

No Analysts selected the potential 3-point trifecta of Colts, Titans, and Bills in Leg 1.

Slate of Games

Player Haters Preakness III | Slate of Games
Slate of Games for the Player Haters Preakness III

The slate of games for the Player Haters Preakness III may prove to be a brutal test of Analyst’s acumen. With only 2 head-to-head competitions this month (first tiebreaker), most Analysts will have to win the Run of the Black-Eyed Analysts with wits alone.

In Leg 1, Wise Orangutan travels to face Big Tuna. Leg 4 pits the young stallions, B-Reezy and Atwork, against one another. layer Hater Bonus Points may not be earned from the two head-to-head Analyst match-ups.

Leg 3 may prove to be the difference as 5 of 7 Analysts’ Home Teams go on the road against notable challengers (one team on a bye week). In Leg 4, two teams go on bye weeks and limit the available choices to FIVE games total — a photo finish in the making!

Home teams owned by an Analyst are in bold. The team at the left is the visiting team; the team at the right is the host (playing at home). There are a handful of featured games: two Thursday nights, two Sunday nights, and one Monday games.

In total, five Home Teams enjoy a bye week during the Preakness.

Picks

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may not pick the sponsored team to lose. Analysts do not have to pick his or her Home Team to win a trifecta. *Bonus* trifecta points are earned for picking against other Analysts’ Home Teams in a winning trifecta. See the Preakness Rules for more.

Email three picks to The Bookie before each leg (week) of the Race. The first picks are due on Saturday, October 8.

Coming out of the first turn in the annual contest for analytical bragging rights, Kal Krome, B-Reezy, and Atwork gallop into the lead with 2 Trifectas each. Kal (10 Correct Picks) holds a one head lead over B-Reezy and Atwork (9 Correct Picks) at the quarter mark.

The Strategist, Big Tuna, and Wise Orangutan continue to run neck and neck with 1 Trifecta each. The Strategist holds the inside rail for fourth place with 9 Correct Picks (vs. 8 Correct Picks for the fifth-place challengers).

The Bookie (6 Correct Picks) edges Little Tuna (5 Correct Picks) for seventh place in the Annual competition.

Minds Blank has been scratched from the Annual competition. A whistle blower informed The Clearinghouse that the first-ever Analyst of the Year has been conferring with all-powerful beings to gain an insight into future events following her disappointing second season in the World Football Trifecta League. Guido has been dispatched to ensure the integrity of the races and to work with local authorities to monitor the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) by the disgraced Analyst of the Pacific Northwest.

PC-Fecta Derby, 2016-17

Final Standings

At the finish, Kal Krome (5 trifecta points) holds off a late threat from The Strategist (4 trifecta points) to win the 2016-17 PC-Fecta Derby! Kal Krome earns his second Quaternary Crown and signals to the other Analysts that the Hawks are not to be trifled with this year — despite falling to the lowly first-place Rams!

Atwork (3 trifecta points) edges past Big Tuna (3 trifecta points) to take 3rd place based on the third tiebreaker: point differentials by the Home Team (9.3 vs. 0.5). The Vikings and Raiders look capable of sacking other Analysts in the coming months.

In fifth with two trifectas, B-Reezy whips his gimpy Bears around the final turn to upset the listless cavalry sponsored by Wise Orangutan (1 trifecta point) .

In seventh, Little Tuna (0 trifecta points) purrs just ahead of The Bookie’s fishy horse (0 trifecta points) based on the third tiebreaker (point differentials, -2.3 > -4.5).

Minds Blank’s trifecta points are under review after submitting Leg 4 picks through unofficial channels. Guido is headed to Washington to investigate what insiders are calling, L’affaire des brownies. Minds Blank is a scratch until further notice.
