The Fibonacci Stakes is a five Leg competition!

The Slate of Games for Fibonacci Stakes IX includes twenty-two head-to-head competitions — five in Legs 1 and 3 plus four each in Legs 2, 4, and 5! Head-to-head competitions limit options since Analysts may not Pick against their own Home Teams.

In addition, seven Home Teams will enjoy a bye week during the Stakes. Picking teams going on or coming off a Bye limits the potential for Fibonacci *bonus* points. Leg 1 byes include Ravens and Bengals — neither team can earn *bonus* points until Leg 3. Leg 2 byes include Jaguars, Dolphins and Buccaneers – none of these teams can earn “bonus* points until Leg 4! There are no byes in Legs 3 and 4, but the Bears and Packers are on byes in Leg 5 (the richest *bonus* Leg!).

Fibonacci *bonus* points can be earned from both Home Teams and un-Claimed Teams if taken in two straight weeks. Un-Claimed Teams with a chance at Fibonacci *bonus* points are:

  • Legs 1 and 2: Cardinals
  • Legs 2 and 3: Cardinals and Saints
  • Legs 3 and 4: Patriots, Texans, Lions, Jets, and Saints
  • Legs 4 and 5: Raiders, Texans, Lions, Jets, and Broncos

Home Teams owned by an Analyst are in bold. The team at the left is the visiting team; the team at the right is the host (playing at home). There are many featured games: six Thursday games (TNF, including all three Thanksgiving Day), five Sunday night (SNF), and three Monday nights (MNF). SNF flex scheduling has already begun, so the teams listed for Sunday Night Football may change.

Picks

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may NOT pick the his or her Home Team to lose. Analysts do NOT have to pick their Home Teams to win Fibonacci *bonus* points. Analysts must Pick Three games from the official Slate of Games. See the Fibonacci Stakes rules for more.

Email picks in private to The Bookie before each Leg (week) of the Race. Thursday games are due by 4pm EST on Thursdays (flexible per The Bookie’s communications). All Sunday and Monday Picks are due on Saturdays at 8pm EST (flexible per The Bookie’s communications). No Picks for games after kickoffs are accepted.

No revisions (Re-Picks) are possible after the Picks have been released to all Analysts by The Bookie.

Fibonacci Stakes IX | Claims Order

Claims Order

Per the General Rules, Analysts may change Home Teams between Crown Races:

If more than one Analyst releases their Home Team at the end of a Race, the new selections will go in order of the former teams’ win-loss records, from worst to best, using the official tie-breaking rules for team playoff ranks in the professional football league. In other words, the Analyst with the worst former team selects first, and so forth, to the best former team.

Trade Reminder!

We do allow trades as long as the terms of the trade do not violate the General Rules, Crown Rules, or the Spirit of the League!

By that we mean, an Analyst can offer a cash incentive or share of potential Purse to sweeten a trade, but an Analyst may not offer Trifectas, Trifecta Points, Tiebreakers, etc., that will affect the outcome of a competition.

All trades are subject to approval by League Management (The Clearinghouse, The Bookie, and Communications Director).

Headed into the home stretch, the heavy track had hobbled half of the field through three Legs. Only two Analysts scored points in every Leg of the Fibonacci Stakes, and the final came down to an outcome in a single MNF game! And the Winner is…

Big Tuna (43 points)! Big Tuna becomes only the second Analyst to complete the Career Grand Slam — he has now won all 6 Races in the WFTL. He had to stave off Woody, who finishes in Place with 37 points.

Atwork (36 points) came on strong at the end to tie Mo Money (36 points), but Mo Money has the edge for Show on Correct Home Team Picks (4 vs. 0).

KateTDid (34 points) surged into fifth place in the final Legs, ahead of Jimmy V (29 points) in sixth position. Roxy Trot (28 points) closes in seventh place with 28 points.

Craft Brew, Little Tuna, and Bookie (25 points each), with Little Tuna taking 8th Place with 2 Correct Home Team Picks, Craft Brew 9th Place with 1 Correct Home Team Pick, and Bookie with 0 Correct Home Team Picks.

Wise Orangutan bests Sponge Mom (19 points each) for 11th position with 2 Correct Home Team Picks, while The Strategist (16 points) and B-Reezy (15 points) trot to the finish line!

Headed into the home stretch (Leg 5), Big Tuna holds a 6 point lead over his nearest competitor — more than 5-point Fibonacci Bonus Pick in Leg 5. This means his challengers will have to earn at least one more Fibonacci Bonus and/or better Trifecta (base or lame) than he does.

Leg 4 Picks

Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Picks | Leg 4
Fibonacci Stakes VIII | Picks | Leg 4

Scenarios

Big Tuna (1st Place; 27 points): The Eagles are on a Bye in Leg 5, so Big Tuna must change at least one Pick. His maximum score is *base* Trifecta (6) plus two Fibonacci Bonus Picks (10) for 16 points. No other Analyst can reach 43 points. If Big Tuna gets a lame Trifecta with two Fibonacci Bonus Pick, he still adds 13 points total. If Big Tuna gets a lame Trifecta with one Fibonacci Bonus Pick, he gains 8 points to reach 35 points total.

While Big Tuna can wipe out (0 points) down the home stretch, the Scenarios consider his “average” outcome (8 points) because many Analyst also have his other Fibonacci Bonus Picks (Rams and Buccaneers).

Woody (2nd Place; 21 points): Woody had the Bills and Buccaneers in Leg 4 — two teams that play each other in Leg 5. She has the luxury of Picking the winner of the Bills/Bucs game for Fibonacci Bonus Points, but Woody also can add only16 points total with a *base* Trifecta and two Fibonacci Bonus Picks. That is enough to Win if Big Tuna scores 8 points or less and those who trail her do not surpass her total.

Mo Money (3rd place; 20 points): Mo Money can perform the full Fibonacci for 21 points. That is enough to beat Big Tuna with a *lame* Trifecta (max = 40 points) and Woody with a 16-point Trifecta (max = 37 points). If she switches Picks (to maintain AoY strategy), then her gambit will require Big Tuna and Woody to falter and those trailing her not to perform a full Fibonacci.

KateTDid (4th Place; 18 points): KateTDid requires a full Fibonacci (21 points) to exceed 37 points (more than Big Tuna’s projected 8-point outcome) and Woody’s maximum outcome. Mo Money can outrace her to the finish line if Rams Win.

Jimmy V (5th Place; 18 points): Jimmy V is Boxed Out by Mo Money, which mean he can Place at best if he holds the same three teams. If he changes one Pick strategically, he can reach 34 points. Whether that is enough to Win depends on which three teams he holds and how other Analysts’ Picks prove true!

Roxy Trot (6th Place; 17 points) and Bookie (7th Place; 17 points): Both Analysts have the Bills and Buccaneers (playing each other in Leg 5). Both must change at least one Pick and at most can earn 16 points for 33 Trifecta Points total. To Win, they will have to choose wisely between Bills and Buccaneers, and then find a third Pick to complete a 16-point Trifecta. Both need to examine the Analysts ahead of them to find the proper third Pick to come from behind.

All Other Analysts: Are in the back half of the field and trailing Big Tuna by at least 12 points. The full Fibonacci (if possible) is their best hope, but most are partially Boxed Out by other Analysts ahead of them. Atwork is in the best position since he has three unique Picks including Cowboys and Seahawks (nobody else has these two teams). The other Analysts will have to spend the night at the computer running predictive models to find their best hope for the Win!

Several Analysts work the bugs out of their algorithms to take home *base* Trifecta Points and shake up the Test of the Computations!

Big Tuna — eager to become only the second Analyst with a Career Grand Slam! — earns a *base* Trifecta with 2 Fibonacci Bonus Picks in Leg 4 for 12 points! He moves into first place with 27 points. Woody (21 points) — the only other Analyst to net points in each of the first four Legs — rises into second place with a modest 6-point *lame* Trifecta. Mo Money (20 points) vaults into third place with a 9-point *base* Trifecta.

KateTDid (18 points) holds onto fourth place by virtue of 1 Correct Home Team Pick — one more than Jimmy V (18 points) who bolts into fifth place with a 9-point *base* Trifecta. With 17 points each, Roxy Trot (2 Correct Home Team Picks) moves into sixth place while Bookie (0 Correct Home Team Picks) lapses from first to seventh place with a busted Trifecta in Leg 4.

In the back half of the field, Atwork (15 points) performs the full Fibonacci to move from last place to eighth place before the final Leg! Craft Brew (14 points) holds at ninth place with 14 Trifecta Points, followed by Sponge Mom (13 points) in tenth place and B-Reezy (12 points) in eleventh position.

Wise Orangutan (11 points) fades into twelfth place, trailed by The Strategist (10 points) and Little Tuna (9 points) at the tail end of the field.

Fibonacci Stakes VIII

After laboring over a heavy track around the near turn, a handful of Analysts pull away from the field and set themselves up for computational success!

Bookie performs the full Fibonacci down the back stretch, earning a *base* Trifecta and three *bonus* Picks for 12 points. She takes the lead with 17 Trifecta Points! Woody and Big Tuna both add a *lame* Trifecta with two *bonus* Picks to reach 15 Trifecta Points total. Big Tuna adds to his second place edge over Woody with another (2) Correct Home Team Picks through the third leg.

KateTDid moves into sole possession of fourth place with 12 Trifecta Points total. She is followed by Roxy Trot and Mo Money with 11 Trifecta Points each. Both have 2 Correct Home Team Picks, giving Roxy Trot the edge for fifth place with 3 Fibonacci Bonus Picks over Mo Money with 1 Fibonacci Bonus Pick. The Strategist moves into seventh place with 10 Trifecta Points.

In the back half of the field, Jimmy V holds eighth place with 9 Trifecta Points, followed closely by Craft Brew in ninth with 8 Trifecta Points. The remaining Analysts did not add to their Trifecta Point totals down the back stretch. Wise Orangutan drops to tenth place at 5 Trifecta Points and Sponge Mom falls to eleventh with 4 Trifecta Points. At 3 Trifecta Points B-Reezy slips to twelfth place.

Atwork and Little Tuna, tied at 0 Trifecta Points, both report that Smath, the Game That Makes Math Fun, does not help one lick with Picking the outcomes of football games!

A somewhat pedestrian — some may say on the way back to a fourth-grade math test of computations — but the field begins to separate after two weeks!

Woody and Big Tuna lead with 8 Trifecta Points each, with Big Tuna holding the edge with 1 Correct Home Team Pick. Wise Orangutan, Bookie and KateTDid follow with 5 points each, with Wise O. in third place with 1 Correct Home Team Pick.

Tied at 4 points each, Jimmy V, Roxy Trot and Sponge Mom form the middle of the field, Roxy Trot having the edge with 1 Correct Home Team Pick. At 3 points each, Craft Brew, The Strategist, B-Reezy and Mo Money earn a bronze star for math acumen!

Atwork and Little Tuna, tied at 0 points each, have added Smath, the Game That Makes Math Fun, to their Xmas lists!
