Trifecta Points

Little Tuna (4 points) sprints out of the gates and takes a commanding lead around the clubhouse turn! With the only Trifecta in Leg 1, she automatically receives all three bonus points for best offensive and defensive performance.

Most Analysts were weakened by the results in Cleveland and New Orleans. Nonetheless, Tiebreakers separate the leaders from the nags (who wrote the Rules of the WFTL!).

With a Correct Home Team Pick and an 8-point Home Team victory, The Strategist clings to second position with Jimmy V close on her heels in 3rd place (1 Correct Home Team Pick and 7-point Home Team victory). Rounding out the middle of the pack with 1 Correct Home Team Pick, B-Reezy (5 point Home Team Victory) and Atwork (1 point Home Team victory) give chase in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Most Analysts at the back of the pack were pinched out of the gates by tough Home Team losses. The exception, Roxy Trot, holds sixth place uncontested by virtue of her Home Team victory (8 points) over The Bookie. Craft Brew, whose Home Team faced off track conditions in a rainstorm, is in eighth place. The Bookie in ninth place (-6 point loss) squeezes by Big Tuna in tenth (-8 point loss).

Wise Orangutan’s misguided Claim of ridglings (a horse Home Team with one or both undescended testes) continues into the fifth year and drops him into last place of the Derby.

Note: The Clearinghouse made an oversight on the Picks. We reviewed the submissions to The Bookie before they were sent out. The Ravens were not on our list of games and we should have had new Picks submitted. The Analysts will be credited with a Correct Pick for the Ravens due to the bookkeeper’s error. The slate of games for PC-Fecta Derby V includes six head-to-head competitions this month (the first tiebreaker in the race)! In Leg 1, the clubhouse turn, we kick off the season with The Bookie visiting the new filly, Roxy Trot, in Philadelphia. On Sunday Night Football (SNF), Sponge Mom challenges the current Super Trifecta Bowl champion, Atwork. Leg 2, the back stretch, looks to be a brutal run as three games feature head-to-head competitions: The Strategist vs. The Bookie, Little Tuna vs. Atwork, and Jimmy V vs. B-Reezy. In the last of three head-to-head challenges in the first three legs, The Bookie then hosts Big Tuna in Leg 3 (the far turn).

Home teams owned by an Analyst are in bold. The team at the left is the visiting team; the team at the right is the host (playing at home). There are many featured games: two Thursday nights, three Sunday nights, and three Monday night.

In the fourth week, The Strategist’s Home Team has a bye. She will be ineligible for bonus points so she has to enter the closing stretch with a commanding lead in order to win the fifth annual PC-Fecta Derby!

Picks

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may NOT pick their Claimed team to lose. Analysts do not have to pick his or her Home Team to win, but *bonus* trifecta points are won only if Analysts include the Home Team in a winning trifecta. See the Derby Rules for more.

Email picks in private to The Bookie before each leg (week) of the Race. Thursday games are due by 2pm on Thursdays (flexible per The Bookie’s time in special circumstances). All three Picks are due on Saturday, September 8, at 2pm. No Picks for games after kickoffs are accepted.

Season V Welcome

WFTL Analysts have come to accept that there are tough loses at the WFTL Racetrack. Just as in life sometimes you just want to shout out “that’s not fair.” A past example was one Analyst that continually week after week complained about the Patriots winning. Yes there are fouls in all sports and in horse racing a grievance can be brought up after the race. So this year we are establishing a complaint box. All Objections (“claims of foul”) will be anonymous, carry no foul language (Orangutan) and will be posted with the weekly picks. Submitting objections to the “Spit Box” may start as soon as the draft begins. You may claim your home team and tell your grievances as soon as your face is no longer red and you can compose your thoughts. Post objections for the “Spit Box” throughout the season.

A Message from The Clearinghouse:

CLAIMING- Buying a horse out of race for entered price. CLAIMING BOX- Box in which claims are deposited before the race.

To start Season V, three Analysts have retained their Claims to Home Teams. The following Home Teams may not be claimed by other Analysts:

  • The Strategist | Panthers
  • Big Tuna | Saints
  • Craft Brew | Steelers

The order of Home Team claims for Season V has been determined per the General Rules. The order of the New Analysts’ Claims have been determined by random number generation: see the official video below for confirmation. The New Analysts will submit their Claims in the following order:

2. Jimmy V (formerly known as DA BEAR)
3. Roxy Trot

After the New Analysts’ Claims have been recorded, the Returning Analysts will stake Claims from the remaining available teams in the following order:
